There was a nice band at the passport office on the dock to welcome us to St. Petersburg, Russia. St. Petersburg is informally known as Piter and was formerly known as Petrograd (1914–1924) and Leningrad (1924–1991). St Petersburg is Russia's second-largest city, Europe's third largest city and is the northernmost city in the world having over 1 million people.
